This is a blog about the stuff I get up to while in Europe. Check it out and see what exactly myself, Adam and Mickaela are doing!

Adventureland!

With Mickaela going to London today, it left Adam and I with the opportunity for a boy's day! So we got our backpacks packed with food, books and cameras and decided we'd tackle the Thames walk again and see how far it actually went. Truth is, we never really found out because we had to turn back eventually... Guess it goes quite far then.

Our ±4 hour walk took us past the farms that line the Thames and into the more dense woods, where we could climb the hillsides and find little resting spots amongst the trees. It was weird how the scenery just changed from flat farmland to hilly woodland so quickly, but it was cool and I don't think either of us expected it!

We stopped and looked at the various interesting sites along the way, which included:

  • an observatory room built over the river
  • cows/horses/rabbits/swans etc
  • cool trees that were either growing parallel to the ground or had fallen over
  • the bridge that the trains use to go over the river
  • the plush houses next to the river
  • and most intriguingly, a type of shelter nestled amongst the trees, near the river. It's small and hexagonal, with a flat roof and tiny windows on 5 sides, with a small door on the sixth. This concrete shelter was covered in moss and plants and looked both odd and in harmony with its surroundings. We couldn't decipher exactly what it was/is for, but my guess is that it was used as a military shelter for training excercises... But who knows. We didn't venture inside tho, as we could see a sleeping bag and we weren't really in the mood to meet any hobos. Maybe next time!
We used this bunker as the end point of our walk and then headed back to Goring. Adam and I then cooked some burgers with home-made fancy sauce for dinner! Think we're going to call it a night pretty soon because the walk took it out of us and we're planning on going to LONDON TOMORROW!
